Legal/IT Research Consultant (Undergraduate/Graduate Position) - February 2008



Galexia is a specialist consulting firm in the area of e-commerce and technology policy and regulation. Our work is at the cutting edge of developing IT-related legal issues. Our clients are government bodies, regional organisations and large multinational companies. At Galexia you will be working with some of the leading consultants in the sector.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic person to join us as a junior Legal/IT Research Consultant on a casual basis. The role requires a background in both law and technology - we are particularly interested in hearing from university students in combined IT/Law or similar degrees.

The successful applicant"s core duties will include legal and technical research (with a strong international focus) in our areas of specialisation - e-commerce, identification, identity management, authentication, security and privacy - and assisting with system administration - maintaining our internal systems as well as our client extranets and public website.

The position offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in these areas in an energetic, friendly and open environment. Galexia supports staff study and offers flexible work arrangements for staff (e.g. during university exam periods).

Title: Legal/IT Research Consultant

Responsible To: Company Directors and Senior Consultants.

Salary/Rate: Negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience.

Contract Duration: Casual

Hours: Minimum of two days per week. Four to five days per week may be available during university holidays.

Duties

  1. Legal and technical research: researching developments in law and technology and synthesising this research for internal and client reports;
  2. Resource management: assisting in maintaining and extending our internal and client resources;
  3. Document production: assisting in the production of client reports, publications, and research papers; and
  4. System administration: assisting in maintaining our internal systems, and developing and maintaining client extranets and the Galexia public website.

Selection criteria

Essential

  1. Qualifications (or currently undertaking study) in law and IT/computer science;
  2. Office IT proficiency - including advanced Word/Excel/email/Internet skills;
  3. Excellent written and spoken communication skills;
  4. Must be responsible, reliable, punctual and trustworthy;
  5. Ability to manage a steep learning curve;
  6. Ability to work well in a team environment;
  7. A proactive and friendly attitude; and
  8. Excellent time management skills and an ability to work to deadlines.

Desirable

  1. Research experience and skills;
  2. Exposure to a management consultancy business;
  3. Cross cultural experience - many of our clients and partners are based in Asia; and
  4. Language skills - particularly Asian languages.


IT/Law Research Assistants

We are always keen to hear from people interested in joining our team as IT/Law Research Assistants.

IT/Law Research Assistants support our consultants with researching developments in law and technology for our internal and client resources. The positions are flexible, and well suited to students available 2 days per week (with the possibility of more days during university breaks).
